Neighbourhood Small Grants Criteria
Application Guidelines
Community Foundation Grey Bruce’s (CFGB) Neighbourhood Small Grants (NSG) are grassroots grant making to support people making positive changes in their community. NSG's empower community members to bring their neighbours together, create new connections, and make their community a better place to live.
NSG’s may be submitted for a grant of up to $500 for any project that will bring your community together, build community strength and resilience, or tackle social isolation.
NSG applications may be available for specific municipalities or areas in Grey Bruce corresponding to an established Community Fund held by CFGB.
In 2024, NSG are open for residents of the Township of Southgate. Deadline to apply is April 15, 2024. Please read the below information and then click here to apply
Who can apply for a NSG?
1. Grassroots organizations, committees, or an informal group of more than two residents of the named community may apply. The applicants are referred to as Project Leaders.
2. The Project Leaders must be residents of the relevant community and the project must benefit that same community.
3. Applications will not be accepted from registered non-profit organizations, or from businesses.
What is eligible for a NSG?
1. You may ask for up to $350 to provide honorariums to anyone who contributes skills or knowledge to your project – including yourself.
2. You can use the grant to offset any expenses of the project including transportation, products, services.
3. Your project budget should include at least two, line items. (not be a single purchase)
4. Activities that will be offered free of charge to strengthen your community.
5. Projects and programs that will be completed within 8 months.
Applications will not be considered that include the following:
1. Include expenses already incurred.
2. Are fundraising for other projects or organizations.
3. Charge a fee to participate.
4. Fund tours or travel or projects outside Grey or Bruce Counties.
5. Individuals or groups that have not completed previous NSG projects or CFGB grants.
6. Activities that primarily serve the purposes of religious or political organizations.
If your project will require a permit such as a town park or pavilion, they must be acquired and approved prior to applying for a NSG. Most projects will not require liability insurance, but bigger projects or events may. You must secure it ahead of applying for a NSG.
Projects may not begin before a grant has been approved. Project Leaders and community groups may only apply for one NSG at a time.
