Community Foundation Grey Bruce acknowledges with respect, the history, spirituality, and culture of the Anishinaabek: The People of the Three Fires known as Ojibway, Odawa, and Pottawatomie Nations; the Chippewas of Saugeen, and the Chippewas of Nawash, now known as the Saugeen Ojibway Nation; and the Six Nations of the Grand River, Haudenosaunee, and Wendat-Wyandot-Wyandotte peoples on whose traditional territories we may gather. We recognize also, the Metis and Inuit whose ancestors shared this land and these waters. We are mindful of broken covenants and the need to strive for justice in all our relations. May we all, as Treaty People, live with respect on this land, and live in peace and friendship with all its peoples.

Grey Bruce is located in the South West Region of Ontario and is bordered by Lake Huron on the west by Georgian Bay on the north. The total population is 157,760 people, with 54% living in a rural setting, 46% living in urban centres, and the largest city being Owen Sound, with a population of 22,000. The area encompasses two first nations, Saugeen and Neyaashiinigmiing.
On average, less than 60% of Grey Bruce youth do not expect to find a job or live in the region after school. Finding adequate employment, particularly for a young person, is not easy in a rural community. Welcoming diversity in our communities and creating an environment of inclusion for more new Canadians, as they take up residence here, are issues on the horizon while we continue to build stronger relationships with our local First Nations.
