SCHOLARSHIPS IN ACTION: Carina Fleming
SCHOLARSHIPS IN ACTION: Carina Fleming
Community Foundation Grey Bruce is pleased to announce Carina Fleming as the 2026 recipient of the Gwen Lamont Education Fund Bursary.
Carina is a mature student from Bruce County pursuing an Honours Bachelor of Indigenous Social Work at Laurentian University. Alongside her studies, she works full time in supportive outreach and is raising her family.
Through her work, Carina supports individuals experiencing homelessness, addiction, mental health challenges and other barriers. Her experience working with vulnerable populations has inspired her to continue her education and strengthen the knowledge and skills she brings to her community.
Carina’s long term goal is to become a registered social worker and continue advocating for people affected by addiction, mental health challenges, homelessness and intergenerational trauma. She also hopes to help improve access to care and create more compassionate, trauma informed and equitable systems.
The Gwen Lamont Education Fund Bursary was created by Gwen Lamont, a local author and social worker who dedicated her career to supporting abused women, vulnerable children, victims of violence, teenagers and trauma survivors.
The bursary supports mature students from Grey or Bruce County who are studying at an eligible college or university, with preference given to women over the age of 25 who are continuing their education later in life.
Congratulations to Carina on receiving this year’s bursary and on her commitment to continuing her education while making a difference in her community.
The Gwen Lamont Education Fund Bursary will open for applications again in late January 2027.
